Chicago welcomed a host of soccer youths from around the world for the KICS Cup Youth International Soccer Tournament July 19-26, 2014. The opening ceremony was held at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park on July 19, 2014.

It was a high-energy entertaining event with youths participating in a flag parade that represented some of the countries in the tournament. They include, China, Colombia, Guatemala, Ethiopia, India, Puerto Rico and the United States.

Highlight of the ceremony was a dynamic performance by Chicago blues musician Fernando Jones andDr. Walt Whitman & The Soul Children of Chicago. They sang 2010 World Cup theme song “Wavin’ Flag” by Somali rapper K’naan.

KICS Cup tournament games will be held from Monday July 21 to July 26 at Dunbar Park, Chicago Park District located at 300 E. 31st St. Chicago, Illinois 60616.

KICS Cup is tournament participants are 60 teams from 9 countries. The soccer tournament is open to boys ages 9-16 and girls 10-14 years old.


Dr. Walt Whitman & The Soul Children of Chicago are celebrating 32 years of performance. Their mission is to continue to serve the community as a non-denominational, non-profit educational organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of youths in Chicago.

Excited Argentinians in Chicago gathered for the 2014 FIFA World Cup semi-final match Netherlands vs. Argentina at Barra N, an Argentine-owned bar located at 2977 N. Elston on Chicago’s north side.  It was also Argentina’s independence day.

It was a victorious day for Argentina as they won the semi-finals game after the nail-biting game went into extra time and penalty kicks. Argentina scored 4-1 in penalty goals including a goal scored by team captain Lionel Messi.  

They will face Germany in the World Cup Finals on July 13, 2014 in Brazil. This will be Argentina’s fifth appearance in the world cup finals.

 

It was a sweet victory for Argentinans who celebrate 198th year of independence.

Fans shared their joy to see Argentina’s football team make it to the final World Cup 2014

Barra N is one of three Argentine owned restaurants in Chicago. Owners also have Folklore located at 2100 West Division St., Tango Sur located at 3763 N. Southport and a grocery store called El Mercado Food Mart.

Chicagoans have enjoyed plenty world cup viewing parties during the month-long FIFA 2014 World Cup games that began June 12. The City of Chicago hosted four world cup viewing parties in Grant Park and in Soldier Field during the Team USA world cup games.

If you ever thought soccer was not well supported by Americans, think again. On June 16, Chicago hosted its first World Cup 2014 Viewing Party in Grant Park, Chicago.  Approximately 8,000 soccer fans dressed in red, white, and blue attended the free event sponsored by U.S. Soccer Association at Arvey Field at Columbus Drive and Roosevelt Road.

Following the huge success of the first Chicago World Cup Viewing Party, City of Chicago hosted three events in Grant Park attended by as many as 20, 000 soccer fans. Team USA moved succeeded to World Cup Quarter Finals after beating Portugal.

On July 1, Chicago World Cup viewing party will be held at Soldier Field. Team USA vs. Belgium in the Quarter Final World Cup match will begin at 3pm. Soldier Field capacity is 61,00 and fans will be able to enter the stadium beginning at 1:30pm. Admission will be free.

On Thursday, June 26 approximately 20,000 soccer fans attended the USA vs. Germany World Cup Viewing Party in at the southeast corner of Balbo and Columbus drive.

The Chicago World Cup viewing party in Grant Park featured large 19×33 foot high definition screen at the south end of Grant Park, near Columbus Drive and Roosevelt Rd. The viewing party featured, ESPN’s live video feed that showed other American soccer fans watching the game including, Rio De Janiero in Brazil, Boston, and U.S. Army members in Afghanistan.

It is great ( look at him smiling while talking about the bulls…. A True Fan even in Washington, DC) to see President Obama enjoying the amazing young players of the NBA as a fellow native ( BreakingVoices Headquarters is localed in downtown Chicago) of Chicago that now resides at  1600 Pennsylvania Ave.

After watching the videos below of  President Obama speaking about NBA updates related to the Bulls as well as the hope to one day invite the Bulls to the white house to congratulate them as NBA world champs, it became award to us at the office  just how much of a huge loyal Chicago Bulls fan our President continues to be even when he only gets a chance to watch ESPN in the morning while working out before getting to the issues of the world.
