Argentine Fans in Chicago Go Wild With Win Over Netherlands in World Cup Semi-Finals at Barra N

July 9, 2014 – Chicago, IL

Excited Argentinians in Chicago gathered for the 2014 FIFA World Cup semi-final match Netherlands vs. Argentina at Barra N, an Argentine-owned bar located at 2977 N. Elston on Chicago’s north side.  It was also Argentina’s independence day.

It was a victorious day for Argentina as they won the semi-finals game after the nail-biting game went into extra time and penalty kicks. Argentina scored 4-1 in penalty goals including a goal scored by team captain Lionel Messi.

They will face Germany in the World Cup Finals on July 13, 2014 in Brazil. This will be Argentina’s fifth appearance in the world cup finals.

It was a sweet victory for Argentinans who celebrate 198th year of independence.

Fans shared their joy to see Argentina’s football team make it to the final World Cup 2014

Barra N is one of three Argentine owned restaurants in Chicago. Owners also have Folklore located at 2100 West Division St., Tango Sur located at 3763 N. Southport and a grocery store called El Mercado Food Mart.

July 9, Argentina celebrated its 198th independence from Spain. The day is a national holiday in Argentina.

Chicagoans have enjoyed plenty world cup viewing parties during the month-long FIFA 2014 World Cup games that began June 12. The City of Chicago hosted four world cup viewing parties in Grant Park and in Soldier Field during the Team USA world cup games.
